CCBTIA Conference Center

Reserve our Conference Center for your student groups, tour groups or meetings. Maximum group size is 35 persons. Audio-visual equipment such as slide projector and overhead projector are available, along with slide presentations (see below), and computer services. (BZ$200/day or $30/hour).

Library

CCBTIA maintains a library of resources materials on Belizean natural history, sustainable tourism and conservation. It is available by appointment to students and community members.

CCBTIA Mini-Reserve Guided Tours

Tour through the CCBTIA Mini-Reserve with an interpretive guide.

  • 1-4 persons BZ$ 60
  • 4 – 10 persons $ 15 per person
  • Groups of 10 or more: $150 for 10 persons plus $5 for each additional person
  • Discounts for international student groups (30%) and Belizean student groups (60%)

CCBTIA Publications

A grant from the Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) allowed the publication of a Trail Guide that describes the trees and plants on the interpretative trail. CCBTIA has also published A Guide to the Birds of Caye Caulker, which includes descriptions of the most commonly encountered birds and a checklist of 130 birds that have been seen here.

FAMRACC-Community Co-Management

Under a grant from the Protected Areas Conservation Trust, CCBTIA facilitated the formation of FAMRACC, the community association for co-management of the Caye Caulker Forest and Marine Reserves. FAMRACC is registered as a non-governmental organization and has agreements with the Fisheries and Forest Departments to co-manage both of these reserves. CCBTIA continues to participate as a member and provide support to FAMRACC.

Awards to CCBTIA and CCBTIA members

 

CCBTIA has made outstanding contributions to conservation, tourism planning and community development on Caye Caulker. This work has been recognized by a number of awards given to CCBTIA and its members.

In 1999 CCBTIA received the award for the “Environmental Organization of the Year” from the Belize Tourist Board for the establishment of the Mini Reserve, catalyzing the formation of FAMRACC, and publishing the trail guide for the CCBTIA Mini-Reserve and Birds of Caye Caulker.

Lionel (Chocolate) Heredia has received many awards for his work to protect the manatees, which has resulted in the establishment of the Swallow Caye Wildlife Sanctuary.

Honourable Antonio Vega, Sr., Senior Justice of the Peace, known to friends as Tony Vega, received the Belize Tourism Board's 2005 Minister's Award to recognize his lifetime contributions to eco-tourism in Belize, especially in establishing the marine and reef tour guiding sector.

At the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the Belize Tourism Industry Association in 2005 Maria Vega was recognized for her contributions to BTIA. Ms. Vega is a founder and past president of the BTIA. She also received a Certificate of Appreciation from COMPACT for her work with the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System World
Heritage Site.

In 2006 Judy Lumb was recognized for her work with the Belize Audubon Society as Secretary and Editor of the BAS Newsletter.
