Awards to CCBTIA and CCBTIA members

BTIA AwardCCBTIA has made outstanding contributions to conservation, tourism planning and community development on Caye Caulker. This work has been recognized by a number of awards given to CCBTIA and its members.

In 1999 CCBTIA received the award for the “Environmental Organization of the Year” from the Belize Tourist Board for the establishment of the Mini Reserve, catalyzing the formation of FAMRACC, and publishing the trail guide for the CCBTIA Mini-Reserve and Birds of Caye Caulker.

chocolate awardLionel (Chocolate) Heredia has received many awards for his work to protect the manatees, which has resulted in the establishment of the Swallow Caye Wildlife Sanctuary.


tony awardHonourable Antonio Vega, Sr., Senior Justice of the Peace, known to friends as Tony Vega, received the Belize Tourism Board's 2005 Minister's Award to recognize his lifetime contributions to eco-tourism in Belize, especially in establishing the marine and reef tour guiding sector.


Maria AwardAt the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the Belize Tourism Industry Association in 2005 Maria Vega was recognized for her contributions to BTIA. Ms. Vega is a founder and past president of the BTIA. She also received a Certificate of Appreciation from COMPACT for her work with the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System World Heritage Site


Judy awardIn 2006 Judy Lumb was recognized for her work with the Belize Audubon Society as Secretary and Editor of the BAS Newsletter.
